GENEVA-ON-THE-LAKE, Ohio (Feb. 15, 2008) History buffs, diving enthusiasts and Lake Erie lovers are invited to immerse themselves in a weekend packed with below-the-surface stories, intrigue and survival at Shipwrecks, Below the Waterline, Friday, February 29 through Saturday, March 1, at the Lodge at Geneva-on-the-Lake - the first of three getaways in the A Great Lake Experience series.

Presented by Kent State University Ashtabula Campus, the weekend begins with a Friday evening opening reception where guests can enjoy hors d´oeuvres as they mingle with the featured speakers and fellow guests. On Saturday, discover the secrets that live beneath Lake Erie as authors Georgann and Mike Wachter uncover the mysteries of shipwrecks from the 1700s to the present.

Then, on the darker side of Lake Erie tales, guests will have the opportunity to experience the terror and tragedy of real-life, sole survivor Dennis Hale as he shares his story of living through the sinking of the Daniel J. Morrel in 1966. Dennis speaks of the pain of going through the giant waves and freezing 44-degree water as he faced death, and lived to tell about it.

Later that afternoon, the Wachters will explore 12 new Lake Erie shipwrecks over dessert during the presentation "The Last Course."

The package includes a Friday one-night stay, Friday evening meet-and-greet session, appetizers, cash bar, live music, and the opportunity to view artifacts and mingle with some local experts. Saturday includes breakfast, educational seminars, a guided excursion to Ashtabula Harbor Marine Museum, lunch at the Lodge and a dessert reception. The package price begins at $299 (plus tax per couple).

The second and third in the series of the KSU-presented programs includes Lighthouse Weekend, May 2-3, along with Lakes and Rivers Weekend, October 17-18. Guests can add a Saturday night for $89 plus tax, per couple, any room.

GENEVA-ON-THE-LAKE, Ohio (Jan. 14, 2008) Radio legend and author John Gorman will take guests inside the glory days of Cleveland´s nationally recognized rock radio station, WMMS, during a special Fireside Chat at the Lodge at Geneva-on-the-Lake on Sunday, January 20, from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. The Fireside Chat is part of the Lodge´s continuing Fireside Author Series and is open to the public and Lodge guests at no charge.

Gorman´s memoir, "The Buzzard: Inside the Glory Days of WMMS and Cleveland Rock Radio" details his experience as WMMS music and program director during the station´s prime from 1973 to 1986. Guests will learn how WMMS become one of the most popular and influential rock stations in the country while Cleveland staked its claim as the "Rock and Roll Capital." Gorman will also share the story behind his creation of the Buzzard, the official mascot of WMMS. A Boston native and Bay Village resident, Gorman was inducted into the Ohio Radio-TV Hall of Fame in 2000.

GENEVA-ON-THE-LAKE, Ohio (Nov. 8, 2007) Advertising-executive-turned-author Lester Horwitz takes guests on a fascinating Civil War journey during the last Fireside Chat at the Lodge at Geneva-on-the-Lake. Guests will be treated to rare stories about Morgan´s Raid, a battle that began in July 1863 when General John Hunt Morgan invaded Ohio with a Confederate force and ended with their capture four weeks and one thousand miles later.

Horwitz´s interest in Morgan´s Raid began after he and his wife Florence purchased their circa 1849 home near Cincinnati in1979. Their discovery that their house was raided by Morgan´s cavalry sparked their curiosity and launched fifteen years of research. Pool and Fitness Membership Exclusively for Ashtabula County Residents

GENEVA-ON-THE-LAKE, Ohio (Oct. 29, 2007) This winter, the popular Lodge Friends Pass returns to the Lodge at Geneva-on-the-Lake, offering Ashtabula County residents access to the Lodge pool, fitness room and special discounts from Nov. 1, 2007, to April 30, 2008.

"Last year, over 240 passes were issued to Ashtabula County individuals and families who enjoyed the Lodge. We hope even more residents will take advantage of the pass this winter," said Jeannette Petrolia, general manager".

Fitness with a View
Lodge Friends Pass holders will enjoy magnificent Lake Erie vistas as they swim in the spacious, glass-enclosed indoor pool, use the fitness center or relax in the hot tub. The fitness center is equipped with a Stairmaster, exercise bikes, treadmills, upper body weight machines and weight benches with free weights. Use of the changing room, lockers and showers are included with membership.

Geneva-on-the-Lake resident Shirley Trice is an enthusiastic supporter of the Lodge and used her pass almost every day last winter. "The Lodge personnel are fabulous, always helpful, encouraging and welcoming. I encourage everyone to get the pass. I was the first one to sign up this year," she said.

Cost for the pass is $150 for one adult and $50 for each child age 18 or under. Each person receives an individual pass. Fireside Chat Series Continues Nov. 17

GENEVA-ON-THE-LAKE, Ohio (Sept. 28, 2007) Author David Borsvold shares his passion for local history during the second of three Fireside Chats at the Lodge at Geneva-on-the-Lake. The author series will be held on Saturday, Nov. 17, from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m., and is open to the public and Lodge guests at no charge.

A classical musician by trade, David Borsvold brings Northeast Ohio history to life by discussing his books: “Railroading in Conneaut, Ohio;” “Cleveland Indians – The Cleveland Press Years 1920-1982;” Images of America: Ashtabula;” and “Images of America: Brecksville.” Borsvold was the featured author at the Buckeye Book Fair in 2003 and 2004 and the 2003 Midwest Literary Festival in Aurora, Ill. In addition, he has written feature stories for the Cleveland Plain Dealer’s Friday Magazine and the classical music column for “Whatzup,” northeast Indiana’s entertainment weekly.
